Get Back Into The Swing of Things! Quilting that is!

September 2008:

Fall is on its way; I can feel it. The temperature is dropping, some of the leaves are starting to change colors and the Christmas fabrics have arrived. It's time to get back into the swing of things. The new class schedule is up and running. We have brought back some old favorites and added some new ones too. The quick and easy "It's In The Bag" will sure to please along with "The Hostess With The Mostess" class which helps you with those Holiday Hostess gift ideas.

Lynn is back and teaching a wonderful "Reversible Table Runner Class" that is a quilt as you go project. She will also be teaching a machine quilting class covering items such as thread, tension and dropping those feed dogs to free motion quilt.

At the end of the this month, join Diana for a hands on look at "Hand Quilting 101". She will be covering the basics of hand quilting, marking quilt tops and more.

Don't forget that this is also a good time to bring in your machine for cleaning and basic maintenance. Our repair person is one of the best and well trained on many different types of machines.

And finally, as a reminder, our deadline for Christmas quilts is October 1, for all over design pantographs. In order for us to guarantee them back to you in time for Holiday gift giving season.

So dust off that sewing machine, play golf or tennis one last time for the season and join us for our Friday Night Sew In, the last Friday of the month (Sept. 26: 5 - 10 p.m.). Call or stop in to reserve your spot for any one of our classes.

May 2008:

Happy Mothers Day! Spring is finally trying to peak through and I couldn't be happier about that! The International Quilt Festival was a whirlwind adventure and I am still exhausted!! I am taking a small break with my family and will be out of the shop for two weeks! The shop  will be open and in good hands, so please come and visit! When I return we will have a whole new line up of classes along with some ol' favorites. The ever popular Mariners Compass is back along with our Learn to Quilt. Try out our NEW Wacky Stacky Stash Quilt, one we think you will LOVE!!

We also have a class starting for new HQ 16 owners that will help get you started with some great quilting skills.

New arrivals of Hoffman Batiks and Jo Morton fabrics have us busy rearranging the shop to find space to put all that new fabric! Stop in and check it out!

Don't forget to hug Mom and tell her how much you love her. In honor of Mom we have created a new quilted wall hanging that she would absolutely love. Kit comes with backing and a FREE pattern.

January 2008:

Happy New Year! I am so relieved to have 2007 over! For me personally, it was not a great year. With my fall down the stairs and being on crutches (my ankle still hurts) and the passing of my mother, made it somewhat difficult. But it’s a new year and boy am I excited! For those of you who haven’t been in the shop for awhile we’ve made quite a few changes. We have painted, rearranged, redecorated and rejuvenated! We have added a whole line of Elna Sewing Machines, more Handi Quilter Accessories and added the new HQ Pro-Stitcher Computerized Quilting System.

We also recently switched over to a new POS system. Thank you for your patience while we learn the new system!! We can now keep track of your punches automatically, no need for cards!!

We’ve added some new classes and brought back some old favorites. Jo Morton’s Little Women Club starts in February, along with the return of Moda University, a mystery style block of the month. We’ve also added the Hot Chocolate Club for those of you who love Snowmen!!

Don't forget to have your quilt appraised this February. We will have a certified AQS appraiser working on your quilt. Quilt can be either antique or done recently. Very important for insurance purposes. However, you must call the shop  to make an appointment!

Mark your calendar for this years Summer Road Trip Shop Hop. This year it will take place over two weekends and the Grand Prize is a Quilting Retreat Weekend for the winner and 5 of her friends!! June 19th thru June 22nd AND June 26th thru June 29th. There will be 12 great shops providing lots of fun! New shops have been added to our group!

Most exciting news is our 4th Anniversary. Hard to believe that 4 years has gone by so quickly. Join us Friday, February 8 through Sunday, February 10 for a GREAT SALES EVENT! Sale on Sewing Machines, select fabrics, patterns and more! Didn’t get the sewing machine you wanted for Christmas? Get it during our Super Sale Weekend.

Thank You for your support these past 4 years. I truly appreciate your business and strive to be your favorite quilt shop bringing you new fabrics and fun clubs. I love quilting. I love designing patterns. I love fabric. I love being a part of Shoo Fly Quilts. I look forward to working with you in the very near future helping you pick out fabric or purchase the best machines for your needs and love just seeing your show and tell. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Please stop by soon and be wowed!

Your Quilting Friend,

Colleen Storiz, owner

December 2007:

Greetings fellow quilters! We are so excited about all the new fabrics arriving on a daily basis that we ordered from Market this past October. We have Jo Morton's Little Women Club and fabric, Hoffman Batiks, new fabric from Moda including Kathy Schmitz, Kansas Trouble, 3 Sisters and April Cornell.

We also have a new line up of classes that begin in January. And for those of you who hadn't heard, we are now and ELNA Sewing Machine dealer. I love the Swiss precision of the machines. Come see the great selection. Class registration is taking place now for 2008 classes and clubs and we have just a few spots for our Winter Retreat in February.

Quick idea for the Holiday Gift Giving: Yo Yo ornaments. Us the large or extra large size. Make several yo yo's. Place a small bell in the center with tread, add a pretty red or green ribbon for hanging and you've got a cute Yo Yo ornament! We carry the Clover YoYo Makers in all different styles and sizes. Stop in for a FREE demo on how to create unique ornaments and other neat ideas using the YoYo Maker. Look for valuable coupons in the Grayslake Review this week.

Please stop in to say hello and show us your latest project. Dont forget our Holdiay Open House, Friday, Dec. 7th from 5 - 8 p.m.

Happy Quilting!
